Local Initiatives Support Corporation (LISC) Chicago

Refining organizational priorities and aligning communications strategies to build a brand

Project: LISC Chicago is an indispensable force in connecting community organizations and local leaders with resources to revitalize neighborhoods and improve quality of life. Despite this important mission, many in the city were aware of LISC Chicago but largely unfamiliar with its mission, work and concrete accomplishments.

Resolute was engaged by LISC Chicago to complete a three-year business plan building on the organization’s assets and strengths as it embarked on a multimillion-dollar fundraising campaign.

Strategy: The Resolute team worked hand-in-hand with LISC leadership and staff to define goals and develop a plan subsequently presented to the LISC Chicago Board of Advisors for approval. We conducted and authored an in-depth stakeholder assessment on LISC Chicago’s communications operations, infrastructure and perceptions about LISC’s strengths, weaknesses, brand and effectiveness and areas where LISC Chicago should focus in coming years.

Resolute then developed a strategic communications plan for LISC designed to increase awareness about the organization and its great work in dozens of Chicago’s neighborhoods among target audiences to help advance the Strategic Plan’s objectives. Specifically, we focused on three key areas:

  • Brand development and alignment;
  • Traditional and new media relations; and
  • Increased visibility for LISC Chicago leadership and position them as experts and thought leaders in their respective fields.

Outcome: In less than a year, Resolute secured more than 70 news stories in a wide range of community-based, mainstream and national news outlets, including The Chicago Tribune, Chicago Sun-Times, Crain’s Chicago Business, Chicago Tonight, Telemundo, Austin Weekly News, Lawndale News, Englewood Portal, Chicago Inno, DNAInfo, and every television network in Chicago, among others.

Resolute helped LISC leadership cultivate relationships with community-based and mainstream media and positioned LISC staff as subject matter experts. We also developed and provided counsel on the implementation of a social media campaign enhanced the organization’s presence and following on social media sites multi-fold.

As part of our effort to position LISC leadership among Chicago’s decision-makers, Resolute facilitated an invitation for LISC Chicago’s CEO to speak before the City Club of Chicago, which sold out with more than 320 attendees.

Today, LISC is recognized among Chicago leaders as a leading community-based organization serving virtually every neighborhood in the citylick edit button to change this text.
